Cycle Syncing: Work With Your Body, Not Against It

By Ayustri Wellness Team

What Is Cycle Syncing?

Cycle syncing is the practice of aligning your lifestyle — food, exercise, work, and social activities — with the four phases of your menstrual cycle. It is not a trend; it is based on the science of how oestrogen, progesterone, FSH, and LH fluctuate across your cycle and affect your brain, body, and energy.

Phase 1: Menstruation (Days 1–5)

Hormones: All hormones are low. Energy: Inward, reflective. Best for: Rest, journaling, gentle yoga, reviewing and planning. Eat: Iron-rich foods (dal, spinach, sesame), warming soups, dark chocolate.

Phase 2: Follicular (Days 6–13)

Hormones: Oestrogen rising. Energy: Rising, optimistic, creative. Best for: Starting new projects, brainstorming, high-intensity workouts, social events. Eat: Light foods, fermented foods, sprouts, eggs.

Phase 3: Ovulation (Days 14–16)

Hormones: Oestrogen peaks, LH surges. Energy: Peak energy, confidence, communication skills at their best. Best for: Important presentations, difficult conversations, strength training, networking. Eat: Anti-inflammatory foods, flaxseeds, raw vegetables.

Phase 4: Luteal (Days 17–28)

Hormones: Progesterone rises then falls. Energy: Declining, detail-oriented, introspective. Best for: Completing tasks, admin work, yoga, walking. Eat: Complex carbs (sweet potato, oats), magnesium-rich foods (dark chocolate, pumpkin seeds), B6 (bananas, chickpeas).

Starting Simply

You do not need to overhaul your life. Start by tracking your cycle for 2–3 months and noting your energy and mood each day. Patterns will emerge that make cycle syncing feel natural rather than prescriptive.
